2007 World Youth HAKKA Culture Camp in Taiwan (application attached)


I. Objectives: To enhance the youth of overseas' recognition of Hakka culture, learn about Taiwanese Hakka culture, enhance the knowledge of Hakka culture worldwide, develop interest in the Hakka language, customs, music, opera, food and beliefs etc, and to enrich global views on Hakka by experiencing it for themselves and learning from each other.

 

II. Hosts: Council for Hakka Affairs, Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission

 

III. Organizers: (Will be decided upon the outcome of the winning tenders after the tender is completed.)

 

IV. Dates and quantity of people:

The 2007 World Youth HAKKA Culture Camp will be divided into two stages. The scheduled dates and quantity of people are as follows and the activities for both stages last three weeks.

 

The date of the first stage is from July 19 to July 30 with 35 participators.

The date of the second stage is from December 2 to December 22 with 35 participators.


V. Dates for Application:

Stage 1: from today till May 20.

Stage 2: from August 15 to October 15, 2007


VI. Method for Application: Please visit the embassy, consulate, branch, office or Chinese cultural center near your location (either visiting in person or contacting them is fine). Applications not following these guidelines will not be processed (only applications from overseas countries will be processed). The application form can be downloaded from the website of the Council for Hakka Affairs (www.hakka.gov.tw ) - homepage – latest news or from the website of the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission( www.ocac.gov.tw ) - homepage – special section for activities of overseas compatriots, or can be received from the above bodies.

 

VII. Application qualifications:

i. Applicants must be over the age of 16 and under 27 (according to the name registered in the passport). He/she must currently live abroad, be healthy, well behaved and be able to adapt to community life. Hakka youths or those who identify with Hakka culture are considered a priority for acceptance.

 

ii. In order to make it fair and to provide more opportunities for participation, the principle is that only one member can participate from one family with the other members being listed as alternates. Multiple births will not be restricted by this.

 

VIII. Application procedures:

i. Submit the following documents:

1. Application form (as enclosed).

2. Health checkup form in standard format (as enclosed, those who don't complete the "laboratory examinations" will not be processed"

3. Signed camp notices for attention.

4. Copy of medical insurance.

5. Copy of birth certificate or passport.

6. Four photographs taken from the waist up and taken during the last six months (passport-size photos, 2"x2"). Stick three of them to the application form and one to the health check-up form.

 

ii. The above documents must be delivered to those bodies processing the applications within the application period. After examination, the decision will be taken whether to accept the applicant or not.

 

IX. Main content of study courses: (the hosts reserve the right to change the schedule of activities)

i. Study of Hakka culture (e.g. Hakka music, dance and daily language).

ii. DIY experience of Hakka food and craftwork.

iii. Visit to special Hakka villages.

iv. Taiwan sightseeing (e.g. National Palace Museum, Sun Moon Lake)

 

X. Expenses:

i. Portion undertaken by the hosts: accommodation expenses, insurance, group activities, transportation and administration during the period of study in the country.

 

ii. Students shall undertake the following expenses by themselves:

1. Traveling expenses to and from Taiwan from their locations.

2. Registration fee for each stage of TWD 3,000.00 (to be paid when registering)

3. Students' personal medical expenses and expenses to compensate for any damage caused due to personal factors during the activities (the parents will undertake the responsibility for related compensation).

4. Accommodation and other expenses for early arrival or delayed departure.

 

iii. Students shall pay the registration fee of TWD 3,000.00 to the organizers when registering. After registration if they leave the camp halfway through for any reason, the fee will not be returned. After application, if the student is accepted and cannot participate in the activity, please notify the original application body in writing, one month before the camp starts to aid follow-up related work.

 

XI. Visa: If students in the camp plan to stay in Taiwan for more than 30 days, having no visa or obtaining a visa upon arrival is not applicable. Please apply for a visa for the appropriate period of stay from your local embassy and bring the visa with you to Taiwan, or you may not be able to extend your visit.
