Kai Huang

Charles Huang

Vice President Business Development and Co-Founder of Guitar Hero

Charles Huang is a co-founder of Guitar Hero and currently serves as the EVP of Business Development, responsible for new game ventures, hardware product development and manufacturing. RedOctane was founded by Mr. Huang and his brother Kai in 1999. Later that year the company launched the world's first online video game rental service. In 2005, the company published Guitar Hero, the first release in a series of critically acclaimed hits from the fastest growing videogame franchise ever. Prior to RedOctane, Mr. Huang co-founded Adux Software, a software company developing solutions for the server appliance market. Adux Software was sold in 1999. Mr. Huang holds a BA's in Economics and Asian Studies from the University of California at Berkeley.


In 2006, Mr. Huang, along with his brother Kai, was elected as one of the top 50 producers in New Media by the Producers Guild of American New Media Council membership which includes such famed movie directors as Jerry Bruckheimer and Brian Grazer. The award was created to acknowledge the contribution of individuals that are creating opportunities for content to be produced and distributed in a digital format.


Mr. Huang immigrated to California as a young child and currently resides in Silicon Valley with his wife and two daughters.


David Chiu

Supervisor David Chiu

President of San Francisco Board of Supervisors

Mr. Chiu was elected in November 2008 to represent San Francisco's District 3. District 3 is home to many diverse and vibrant neighborhoods, including North Beach, Chinatown, Telegraph Hill, Russian Hill, Polk Street, Nob Hill, Union Square, Financial District, Barbary Coast and Fisherman's Wharf. In January 2009, David was elected President of the Board of Supervisors.


Before joining the Board, David was a founder and Chief Operating Officer of Grassroots Enterprise, an online communications technology company. Prior to Grassroots, he worked as a criminal prosecutor at the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and as a civil rights attorney at the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights. In the mid-1990s, David served as Democratic Counsel to the U.S. Senate Constitution Subcommittee and as Senator Paul Simon's aide to the Senate Budget Committee. The eldest child of immigrant parents, David Chiu grew up in Boston and received his undergraduate degree, law degree, and master's degree in public policy from Harvard University.


David Chiu has lived in District 3 for over a dozen years, in the Russian Hill and Polk Street neighborhoods. Before taking office, David was a hands-on leader in San Francisco and in District 3, as a Small Business Commissioner, chair of Lower Polk Neighbors, board president of the Youth Leadership Institute, board chair of the Chinatown Community Development Center, judge-arbitrator for the Polk Street Community Court, and president of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area. David was previously elected to the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee and chaired California's 13th Assembly District Democratic Committee.

Master of Ceremonies - Christine Chen

Christine Chen is a communications executive with two decades as an award-winning journalist and media insider, honored with two Emmys and ten nominations. She founded Chen Communications in 2006 and currently works with clients such as Microsoft, World Vision and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Christine hosts a technology solutions web talk show: "The Evolving Enterprise".
Christine is a "40 under 40" and President of the Board of Directors for an API social services agency. An alumna of U.C. Berkeley living in Seattle, she also teaches yoga, dances salsa with her husband, and plays Frisbee with her dog.

Hochie Tsai
First Keynote - Hochie Tsai

Hochie Tsai is the creator of TaiwaneseAmerican.org, a website dedicated to connecting and highlighting the new generation of Taiwanese Americans. He has spent most of his life working to build organizations and networks that serve the Asian American community, but these days is known more for his popular "Stinky Tofu Walks Alone" t-shirt design. He is currently a board member of the Taiwanese American Foundation, the founder of Taiwanese American Professionals in San Francisco, and an organizer of the North American Taiwanese Medical Association 2G.
Professionally, Ho Chie is a board-certified pediatrician on staff at the Children's Hospital and Research Center of Oakland, which serves an ethnically diverse and mostly under-privileged patient population. Additionally, he holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and Bioengineering, but will probably never use that knowledge ever again.
His personal mission is to inspire young people to discover their values and passions so that they can make a positive impact in this world.

Teddy Liaw
Second Keynote - Teddy Liaw

Teddy Liaw has been an active 2nd gen leader in the Taiwanese American community for several years. He was the 3-term President of Taiwanese American Professionals (TAP), which is the largest national network of TA young professionals, and is largely attributed its growth. Today, he serves as the National Chairman of the Taiwanese American Citizens League (TACL), where he also was the Internship Coordinator for several years. He is returning to his alma mater. He graduated from UC Berkeley, where he served as student body President (ASUC), created the Asian American Association (AAA) and Project SMILE.
